I am a parent who until not very long ago no very little about the world wide web and what I did know gave me great concern. I knew I had to let me kids use the Internet as it is a vital tool for a child’s education as well a social development and development of IT skills. So I had to find away to keep things safe and under control. Just to give you some details on my family I have a daughter aged six and a son aged fifteen they are called Sam and Sally. Sally has only just began to use the Internet and uses our family PC whereas Sam is a real swot and sued his own laptop from his bed room.

So anyway back to the point, I began my quest for information about protecting my children on the Internet ironically enough on the Internet. I found a host of good advice which now seems simple. The first and possibly best advice I found was to set out clear rules as to when and how the net can be used. The second piece of advice was all about where you keep the computer it made it clear that the computer should be kept in full view of other people. This made a lot of sense but I could hardly take my boys lap top away at this stage. It was however the third bit of advice which was really useful. The site I was on recommended two bits of software PC Tattle Tale and Net Nanny. The first bit of software PC Tattle Tale was perfect for keeping an eye on what Sam was up to, the software monitors everything your child does on line without them knowing. The second bit of software was far more suited to Sally as it actively blocked harmful content. I bought them both and now I have no problem letting my kids go on line as I know exactly what they are doing.

Worm farming is becoming more and more popular. Worm farm kids have lots of fun, contribute a needed resource in their community, and can even make some good money.  To make your kids worm farm fun and successful, here are a few great tips.

Feeding your worms the right food is important otherwise they will not be able to grow or even multiply. Your worms will thank you for a gourmet meal of vegetable matter, coffee grounds, grass clippings, manure, rabbit pellets, and even vacuum dust. Never make the mistake of feeding them dairy products, meats and certain vegetables like onion because this could kill them.

Can you overfeed your worms. Worms eat about half their body weight in food, which is about 250 grams, so you don’t need to do this with trial and error.

When you give your worms food, make sure that this is always fresh and kept at a temperature of about 24 degrees Celsius. If you want to increase their appetite, give them some worm fattener. To make this, mix some pet pellets, wheat flour, rice bran, lime and some milk. Be sure that it is dry and moist before putting it in the container.

The more worms eat, the more fertilizer they are able to produce. Aside from giving them food, don’t forget to give them some water as well since what they produce is 80% water. Be careful with the water, or you will end up with water logged, and dead worms. This should also be poured every couple of weeks.

You need to investigate the problem if you notice that your worms stop eating. Just make some adjustments if they cannot reach it. Your worms will eat the old one if you stop feeding them for a week.

In 2 to 3 months, your worm farm population will reproduce. Be sure to spread your worms into a new container to prevent overpopulation. You could also add some to your garden, but add some mulch first.

Worms can be grown all year round and under any weather condition. If you are planning to raise a worm farm outdoors, be sure to check on them.

If it rains, the worms will move up to higher levels but since this is not enough, you better transfer the container under the shade. If the weather is hot outside, you better do the same since they can only survive between 10 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Fort those who live in cold climates, you better cover the container with an old blanket or carpet. More food in your worm bin will create more warmth as the food breaks down.

You may have to fend off the ants to protect your worms’ food supply. To prevent this from happening, add water to raise the moisture levels and add some garden lime. Another technique is to rub Vaseline on the legs of the container as this will prevent the ants from reaching their home.
